Boruchot HaBa'ot, Boruchim Ha Ba'im!
Welcome to Temple Shalom's Membership Page

Thank you for accessing our website.  This is a glimpse of the warm and wonderful liberal synagogue that is Temple Shalom.  Since August 1978 it has been my honor and pleasure to serve as rabbi of this remarkable congregation.  I have witnessed growth in both numbers and impact on our community and Jewry around the world.

Almost 250 member families are affiliate with us; people of all ages, races, orientations and backgrounds.  We celebrate our Judaism through prayer, learning, social action and fun.  We have active groups for youth, women and men in our temple.  Our high school group, SHORTY (Super Heros of Reform Temple Youth) and WOTS (Women of Temple Shalom), our sisterhood both earned national recognition.  Temple Shalom members share a strong connection to Israel, travelling frequently to Louisville's Partnership Region, the Western Galillee, to engage with both the land and the people.

Temple Shalom is proudly committed to Reform Judaism.  Our prayer book is Mishkan Tefila, the new Reform Siddur.  Since 2005, a rabbinical student from our seminary, the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, has been on staff as our Helen Wiser Rabbinic Intern; greatly enhancing our programming.

Temple Shalom is Mishpocha; an extended family.  To see who we really are, visit us!

I look forward to seeing you at Temple Shalom!

L'shalom,

Rabbi Stanley R. Miles, D. D.

Membership Information

Temple Shalom has an active membership committee that represents members of all the various age groups in our Temple.

The membership committee meets quarterly to talk about issues relating to membership recruitment and retainment.  Along with the Temple Shalom Board, the membership committee calls all members to wish them a Happy New Year before Rosh Hashanah.

The membership committee also hosts a Founders-New Members Shabbat Lunch each February to honor our oldest and newest members.

One new program that has been especially popular this year is giving Welcome Baskets to new members at Friday Shabbat services, where they are recognized and introduced.  If members can't attend the service a home visit is made by the Temple President or me to drop off the basket.  These baskets are supported by our Men's Club, which donates wine for each basket and by the Women of Temple Shalom (our sisterhood), which donates Shabbat candlesticks.  The baskets also contain Shabbat candles and Challah, as well as welcome letters from Men's Club, WOTS, membership committee, and the Temple president.

Another new project that we are working on is a booklet of daily prayers that we hope to have printed this year to give to members on special occasions.

If you would like more information about membership at at Temple Shalom, please contact us by clicking on the email links on a name.

-Brenda Bush & Heddy Teitel, Co-Vice Presidents of Membership
