Temple Shalom is the smaller and younger of two Reform synagogues in Louisville, KY. The congregation was formed in 1976, and moved into its current synagogue building in August 1989. The congregation has over 200 families, including singles, couples, families with children, seniors, etc. The congregation has a strong family atmosphere. Rabbi Stanley R. Miles has been the congregation's rabbi almost since its founding, coming to Louisville in 1978.

The religious school includes over 150 students. We partner with Keneseth Israel and Adath Jeshurun synagogues for Louisville Beit Sefer Yachad (LBSY, Louisville United Jewish Religious School), an innovative new program with Hebrew and Jewish Studies encompassing grades Kindergarten-8.  Classes are divided by age, meeting in all three synagogue venues on Sunday and at the Jewish Community Center on Wednesday. Our 9th and 10th graders attend the High School of Jewish Studies. Friday night and Saturday morning services are enhanced with a monthly Family Shabbat, conducted on a rotational basis by each of the religious school classes.

Temple Shalom has an active sisterhood, called the Women of Temple Shalom (WOTS) and received its charter from the Women of Reform Judaism in 1995. WOTS sponsors the Helen Wiser Judaica Shop, Hanukkah Helpers and many other functions at Temple Shalom.

The Men's Club is also active with monthly brunches and a softball team in the Mickey Miller Synagogue Softball League at the Jewish Community Center. Temple Shalom teams consistantly place first or second in the league championship.

SHORTY, Temple Shalom's award winning youth group meets the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month at 6:00 pm in our Youth Group lounge. SHORTY is affiliated with NFTY (the North American Federation of Temple Youth). Membership in SHORTY is open to all Jewish high school students at Temple Shalom.

Other notable activities include the Tikkun Olam ("Repair of the World") committee which provides a means for congregants to perform various mitzvot together, such as participating in charity walks and helping out at homeless shelters.
