The Temple Shalom Men’s Club is dedicated to providing speakers, trips, fun and camaraderie to its more than 40 members.
Breakfast meetings are typically held at the second of each month at Temple Shalom, and usually feature a guest speaker. Sometimes, a meeting might be held off-site, such as at a clubhouse or restaurant, just to spice things up.
We do lots of things. We play poker. Plan outings. Hear fascinating people. Our fund-raisers help support the Temple.
Our events are usually open to the whole congregation, and sometimes to the Louisville community at large.
In 2015-2016, our Sunday brunch speakers covered such topics as: how to maintain a healthy lifestyle; historical tidbits from the Kentucky Derby Museum; trivia about the early days of Louisville television; the Second Amendment Right to bear arms; how to invest in 2016; the local sports scene from a TV sports anchor; and interesting facts about Louisville architecture and landmark buildings. The highlight of the year was a lecture by Teddy Abrams, artistic director of the Louisville Orchestra.
As for fun events, last year, Temple Shalom men — and women — toured a bourbon distillery in Bardstown, Ky.; attended a University of Louisville women’s basketball game at the KFC Yum! Center; and went to a U of L men’s baseball game to watch a team ranked No. 2 in the country that almost went to the College World Series.
In between all that, we found the time to convert 100 pounds of potatoes into more than 500 delicious latkes for the annual Temple Shalom Hanukkah dinner.
For 2016-17, the co-presidents are Eddie Abraham, firstname.lastname@example.org and Ken Berzof, email@example.com.
