Men's Club Mission Statement
The Temple Shalom Men's Club is an organization of spirited members dedicated to serving the general congregation of Temple Shalom and the Louisville community. The Men's Club aims to provide a congenial atmosphere among all congregants through support of:
- Religious Activities
- Religious School Functions
- Fund Raising
- Developing Social Activities for the Congregation
- Supporting and Co-Sponsoring Events with the Women of Temple Shalom
The Men's Club strives to support the goals of Temple Shalom and help facilitate fulfilling and rewarding religious, social, and educational experiences for the congregation.
The Men's Club usually meets on the first Sunday morning of each month for breakfast, business, schmoozing and an occasional guest speaker from our community. Our upcoming events are listed below, but can also be found in the monthly Kol Shalom newsletter. If you have children in Sunday School, why not join us after you drop them off?
Past speakers have included the mayor of Louisville, Jerry Abramson; the past Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Dr. Steve Henry; the editor of LEO Magazine; Dr. Stan Frager, sports psychologist and host of a nationally syndicated radio talk show; historian Herman Landau; expert and author Don Clippinger on the history of Jews in (Did you know that the founder of Belmont Park was Jewish?); and many others. Some other Men's Club activities have included Monte Carlo Nights, visits to the Sky Terrace at Churchhill Downs, the floating Aztar in Evansville, Indiana, ice hockey games, and baseball games with the Louisville Bats.
Temple Shalom Men's Club members have been very active playing sports as well. Temple Shalom teams have won the championship of the Mickey Miller Memorial Synagogue Softball League more often than any other competing team since the inception of the league. Interest at Temple Shalom in softball is so great that some years we have been able to field two teams in the league!
