Thoughts on Tikkun Olam ("Repair of the World")
"It is written 'Depart from evil, and do good' (Psalm 34:15) ... You have done wrong, then balance it by doing right" (Gates of Repentance). Admitting and accepting that we have done wrong, we can forgive ourselves by choosing to turn toward building a better future.

The Torah says that our choice of action is to be found near us, not far away, found within our hearts and in our minds. There is a safety clause to our choosing. When we make mistakes, admit our wrongdoing, and turn ourselves towards good; we can appeal our fate.

Just pick something! If it works, celebrate and continue! If it fizzles, do something else.

One goal of the Temple Shalom Tikkun Olam/Social Action Committee is to give you some help in finding something you'd like to do. Our members have investigated several programs and have found some we think you might find rewarding. We have a short list of suggestions and are anxious to help you. Please feel free to call about the programs we have studied or to suggest others for consideration.
