Temple Shalom Men’s Club

The Temple Shalom Men’s Club is dedicated to providing speakers, trips, fun and camaraderie to its more than 40 members.

Breakfast meetings are typically held at 10 a.m. the second Sunday of each month at Temple Shalom, and usually feature a guest speaker. Sometimes a meeting might be held off-site, such as at a clubhouse or restaurant, just to spice things up.
Our vibrant and active Men’s Club needs you.  There has been a leadership void but a hard-working committee made up of John Silletto, Lee Chottiner, Aviv Na’amani, Joel Sonnheim, Ken Berzof, Eddie Abraham, Bill Haberman and Mark Epstein makes sure we provide monthly Sunday programs with brunch and speakers as often as possible.
New Temple Shalom members get free Men’s Club membership for the first year. If you have questions about or wish to join Men’s Club, please contact current Secretary Mark Epstein at 502-458-1345 or e-mail him at mjra2628.eps@juno.com.  Aviv Na’amani is our current Treasurer.

We also make sure we can provide assistance to help and set up for Temple Shalom holidays and events.  We have  donated Men’s Club funds to Temple Shalom’s General Fund and the Tu B’ishvat Tree Planting event.  Our most recent fundraiser was preparing and selling food for the Arts and Crafts Fair.  A donation of $20 per year to build up the Men’s Club Treasury is appreciated and wanted so we can provide funding to Temple Shalom, pay expenses and contribute to yearly and special events.  In between all that, we found the time to convert 100 pounds of potatoes into more than 500 delicious latkes for the annual Temple Shalom Hanukkah dinner.
The 2017-2018 year included a Membership Drive cookout at John Silletto’s clubhouse, Triathlon participant and speaker Sydney Abramson, making Latkes for the HannukahPaloosa event, Former TV reporter and anchor/current movie star Barry Bernsen, 2017 Kentucky Teacher of the Year and speaker Ron Skillern about the Holocaust, providing food and volunteers for the Tu B’ishvat Tree Planting and preparing/selling food for the Arts & Crafts Fair fundraiser.  Future speakers include Wes Gersh’s talk about interpretation of the new Tax laws and Israeli Rabbi Zahar’s talk about Arab/Jewish co-existence.
The 2016-2017 year included a Membership Drive Bar-B-Q, tour of the Speed Museum, Centerstage speaker John Leffert, WAVE TV Troubleshooter and speaker Eric Flack, attending Louisville Bats and U. of L.’s Women’s Basketball games, speaker Coast Guard Captain Michael Zamperini’s talk about Homeland Security, Game Day Fundraiser featuring Texas Hold’em/Bingo/Raffle/Board Games/Mah Jongg, Federal Representative and speaker John Yarmouth, Bellewood Boys Home Bar-B-Q and Games, Purim Carnival and Breakfast, Holocaust survivor and speaker Fred Gross, Environmentalist and speaker Josh White on reforestation in Louisville, Financial Planner and speaker Mark Lamkin, Former Mayor/Lieutenant Governor/Director of Governmental Affairs (White House) and speaker Jerry Abramson and Former U. of L. basketball player Luke Hancock.
We need leadership and manpower to strengthen Men’s Club in order to provide funds for and assistance to Temple Shalom events.  Please help and donate!
